Recently, I had the privilege of capturing the memories of a beautiful family in Basel alongside the Rhine. The family of four consisted of two small children and their loving parents, who were all eager to have their special moments captured on camera.
As a family photographer, I always strive to create images that are not only beautiful but also timeless. With the backdrop of the Rhine river and the picturesque city of Basel, I knew that this session was going to be one for the books.
I captured both candid and more posted moments, which to me are both precious and important. The children were full of energy and were constantly exploring the surroundings, and their parents were always there to keep a watchful eye. The children’s laughter and playful nature were a delight to capture, and I knew that these images would bring a smile to the family’s faces for years to come.
I always make sure to take some solo portraits of each child, capturing their individual personalities. The children were the stars of the show, and their innocence and playfulness shone through in their photos. The parents also had their moments in front of the camera, and I was able to capture the love and pride they have for their children.
I was able to capture the family’s love and connection, and the beautiful surroundings made for a stunning backdrop. The family now has a collection of images that they will treasure forever, and I am grateful to have played a small part in preserving their memories.

A Beautiful Celebration of Love
As a photographer, capturing the joy and love between two people on their wedding day is always a thrill. This recent wedding in the city center of Basel was no exception. With its stunning architecture and picturesque streets, Basel provided the perfect backdrop for this beautiful celebration of love.
Before the ceremony, we went around the city for a couple session. Basel is a beautiful city with a rich history and cultural heritage, and it was the perfect backdrop for this intimate session. We captured beautiful shots around the city center, with its quaint alleys, beautiful squares, and charming buildings. The couple was so in love and the love was palpable in every frame.
Overall, this intimate wedding in Basel was a heartwarming experience. The love and warmth that surrounded the couple and their guests was truly touching and it was an honor to be able to capture these special moments. Weddings are such a beautiful and intimate celebration of love and it’s always a privilege to capture the special moments of a couple’s big day. What is Lifestyle Newborn Photography?
My approach to photographing a new baby is called lifestyle newborn photography. This simply means the focus is on your natural connections as a family instead of the use of props and heavy posing. While I use gentle guidance for posing, my main goal is to photograph the love between family members, and the awe they share at their new baby. Lifestyle sessions are fairly unposed. I often direct my clients on where to sit or stand, but mostly use something called “prompts” to bring out emotions and personality.
Lifestyle newborn photography is personal. They take place in your home, in your space – the place you spend the most time as a family. Sessions generally occur in the living room, the master bedroom bedroom, and baby’s nursery.

Goodbye Basel

Goodbye Basel! Moving is never easy, we all know that. But moving to another country: that’s another story! This family was about to return to Scandinavia. They asked me to conduct a photo session at a few of their favourite spots in Basel. A great idea, especially for the children as they might otherwise forget about their Basel-adventure!
We documented their beautiful home in Gellert, as well as their garden. Afterward that we took a stroll to the Rhine, where the kids enjoyed throwing some rocks 😉

She had that magical ‘soon to be Mama’ glow when I met her and her husband for their maternity photo session in Basel-Stadt, Switzerland this fall. We got lucky. The sky was clear after foggy and cold night. This resulted in perfect conditions with a perfect sky, albeit still a little cold! This session was effortless as it was clear they were so excited about their firstborn and completely enjoying the last few weeks with just the two of them.

Family photo session in Allschwil

Earlier this year I had the chance to conduct a photo session in Allschwil. The family choose a spot that many of us in Basel will be familiar with: the Allschwiler Wald. I wasn’t too familiar with this side of Allschwil. This was a rather quiet corner right behind a small residential area, except for … the croaking frogs! The sound reminded me of the frogs in Singapore after a thunderstorm.
Right at Basel’s doorstep, Allschwil offers tons of possibilities for an outdoor photo shoot. Right were Tram 8 ends, near the Weiher, Allschwiler Wald offers several steep drops and a creek. This side is beautiful for a stroll and for a Sunday grill. Kids can have tons of fun either in the water or simply by climbing up and down the hill. After crossing the Oberwilerstrasse, you end up at the water tower. I didn’t have the chance to go up yet to get some views of Basel, but love the fact that you can pick flowers here. Going down again there is a small playground, some barbecue pits and a creek. This side has some more agriculture; the area around the dam is gorgeous in spring.

Summer photo shoot in Gellert

Last month I had the opportunity to conduct a summer photo shoot in Gellert with this young family on a lovely warm morning. Their first child just turned 7 months and just started to crawl. I never saw a baby laugh this much – he was having a ball! Nevertheless, you never know with young children. That’s why we always plan for sufficient time to get some nice and authentic shots. This also leaves enough time for a drink and a clean nappy. I love the walk from Gellert to the Rhine. There is so much variety in landscape and architecture that it is always possible to get great photos!

Wonderful Family Photoshoot in Riehen

Several weeks back I had to chance to conduct a outdoor family photo shoot in Riehen, near Basel. Maybe because of the the dry spell, the fields behind Beyeler Foundation were completely dry. The golden fields offered a perfect contrast with the dramatic clouds and the occasional sun. I loved the fact that the family’s dog came along. He was running terribly warm – but could take a splash in the Wiese afterwards.

Basel Rhine Family Photosession

If you’re like most people, you’ve thought about family portrait photography but it just hasn’t happened. You’re too busy, need to have your hair done, your roots are showing, you have to lose 10 more pounds…
All too often we forget about our past because we are so busy building our futures. Our children grow up too fast! In the blink of an eye they are packing their bags and going off to live their lives. Gone overnight are the days of the little feet walking toward the bedroom door to wake us up at 6 in the morning.
If you’ve been thinking about having a family portrait taken, do it. Do it for your children. Your children won’t notice the roots, a few extra pounds, a smile line or even a fading tan, but I guarantee they will be extremely happy when they are older and there are beautiful family photos to share with their own family!
On the other side of the Rhine to Basel old town, Kleinbasel is characterised by diversity, creativity and art. In summer, residents line the south-facing riverbank to soak up the sun. This is a perfect location for a family photoshoot as well!

My father recently visited us in Basel. The weather was beautiful so we were able to show him the city and its surroundings. One day we visited Fondation Beyeler, a beautiful museum in Riehen. After that we went for a walk in the fields behind it. The weather was just fabulous, we could walk around without wearing our coats… in January!

Autumn shoot in Zurich

Several weeks back, I had the opportunity to conduct a family outdoor photo shoot in Zurich.
It has been a while since I experienced autumn and I did not know what to expect of autumn in Switzerland. It turns out it is amazing! The hills and mountains, combined with the rivers and lakes and quaint old towns with cobblestone roads make for a perfect backdrop for an outdoor family shoot.
We picked two spots for this outdoor photo shoot: Rieterpark at Museum Rietberg, and the promenade along the lake of Zurich. It is an easy stroll between these two locations.
It turned out to be a lovely Sunday morning with beautiful autumn light. Afterwards, we stopped for drinks at the Rote Fabrik: quiet a contrast with Museum Rietberg.
I am based in Basel, but it is no problem to travel to Zurich for a shoot al all.
